We are standing before an Arab wall built during the 10th century. Although it was constructed by the Arabs, it is known to have been built on top of an earlier construction of Ibero-Roman origin. The Torre del Homenaje is the main tower of the Castillo de la Villa in Martos, Jaén. This tower is a historical remnant of the medieval defences and stands on the highest point of the city. The tower has a square plan and consists of three floors. The lower floor contains a cellar mill that collects rainwater from the roof. The upper floors are covered with cross vaults and have a domed roof. The tower is well preserved and has now been converted into a Cultural and Historical Interpretation Centre.
