In the late 15th century and the middle of the 16th century, Veere was an important, wealthy port town. In the centre, pretty patrician houses, an imposing town hall and a colossal cathedral are reminders of this golden age. Today, water sports and tourism dominate life around the old brick defence tower Campveerse Toren. A lavish celebration. Long tables in the elegant fireplace room, with a view of the Veerse Meer on both sides. Ships sail majestically past. That is probably how it was on June 21, 1575. At that time, the French Princess Charlotte de Bourbon and Prince Willem of Orange, the later King of the Netherlands, celebrated their wedding here. Today, the Campveerse Toren restaurant looks almost the same. The truly royal hall is located in a fortress that is over 500 years old, and from some of the rooms in the romantic hotel and from the restaurant you have a clear view of the inland waters. The building served as a city hostel as early as 1440. And after the royals in the 16th century, many other celebrities followed - Prince Rainier of Monaco and his Grace Patricia dined here on June 30, 1958, for example. Sterckshof... is no longer a museum! (But the DIVA even more so) Gerard Sterck was apparently not happy with a silver museum in 'his' castle. Well, his words turned out to be prophetic. The history of the Sterckshof began in the 13th century when the castle consisted of a farm surrounded by a moat. After several centuries of ownership changes, renovations and destruction, this castle, or what remained of it, came into the hands of the Province of Antwerp. They rebuilt it in the 1930s in neo-Renaissance style. First, the Sterckshof was a museum for arts and crafts, until Jonkheer Pierre Lunden donated no fewer than 96 pieces of silver to the museum in 1976. This donation of works of art from the 16th century to the present day formed the basis of the extensive silver collection exhibited here. Since May 2018, this collection, together with the diamond collection, can be admired in the DIVA The Sterckshof currently houses artists' studios and the cozy Bar Stark. The domain and buildings were constructed as a country retreat in the 16th century. From 1618 to 1773 it was owned by the Jesuit fathers. In 1776 the domain came into the possession of a wealthy Antwerp banker Jan Baptist Cogels and the old castle was demolished. He then built a new Hof van Plaisantie. For the norm in the 18th century, what we see today was a modern castle. Now you can enjoy the grandeur of a bygone era here.

After a long walk or while the children are romping in the playground, you can go to Rivierenhof castle for a drink, a snack or a full meal. Enjoy a beautiful setting both outside and inside. With a view of the mirror pond and strolling park visitors or in the shade at the rear of the white castle. The catering business is open daily from 10 am all year round.
