There are many different attractions around Gaverplas lake. People can be seen fishing on the lakeside banks. There is a big fountain, restaurants, bars and cafes. Many different paddle boats are at the main building section. Good new gravel tracks go around the lake. It is a popular area as the campsite is connected also and local people pass through

The Spiegelvijver and the middle pond - together about 1 hectare in size - were made fish-free and the banks were adapted for the midwife toad. The vulnerable larvae and young toads of the midwife toad are a delicacy for many fish species. (Nature and forest)

The Poelaertplas is a large lake in the provincial domain De Gavers in Onkerzele, a sub-municipality of Geraardsbergen. The lake is approximately 20 hectares in size and has a maximum depth of 4.5 meters. You can swim, kayak, dive, fish or just enjoy the nature and the view. The lake is named after the Poelaert family, who used to own the domain. The lake was created by sand extraction for the construction of the E40 motorway in the 1970s.
