Now a private residence, this place, built in the 14th century by order of the Da Carrara family, has become a symbol of D'Annunzio's exploits. From San Pelagio, on August 9, 1918, Gabriele d'Annunzio's air squadron took off on the insane "Flight over Vienna," dropping thousands of leaflets urging surrender. Today, the castle houses the Air Museum and the D'Annunzio Rooms.

The castle of San Pelagio is the home of the Zamora Counts, who hosted Gabriele D'Annunzio in 1918.
