The Santa Maria del Bosco refuge is easy to reach and is equipped with fresh drinking water, toilets, BBQ sites, firewood, a room always open with a fireplace and wooden bunk beds, camping sites, swings and a football pitch.

The path is a bit boring, but the donkeys and cows provide some variety. Further up it gets nicer! Easy forest path.

Refuge in excellent condition, complete with toilet, fountain and good connection.

The bivouac was inaugurated on 1 January 2024. Other interventions are currently under construction: the external fence and the fountain with the manual pump. The forestry team did an excellent job: the bivouac is not only new but has various elements that make it one of the most beautiful on Etna. - It is covered internally and externally with wood and this improves thermal insulation. - The excellent quality of the wooden window frames also makes it more comfortable - It is very panoramic: You can admire most of the villages under the northern slope of Etna - The two very comfortable wooden deckchairs are the best of this bivouac. Two pearls typical of the Alps but unprecedented on Etna: the forestry department really did an excellent job!

The refuge is managed by the forestry and is in excellent condition. In the outdoor space there is a woodshed and a barbecue area. In front of the refuge there is the Palombe cave.

The bivouac is certainly among the most beautiful in all of Sicily. Inside there is, among other things, a football field, a bowling green, electrical socket, toilet, as well as having several water points and connection to the Vodafone network. Also noteworthy is the excellent level of cleanliness and maintenance of the entire area. The only flaw for me is that it is located right on the path of the Via Francigena Normanna. I would have preferred a more isolated/further from the trail site.

It is perhaps the most beautiful bivouac ever seen in Sicily. Equipped with several drinking fountains, play area, football pitches and bowling greens, Vodafone internet connection available, electrical socket, toilet. The whole area is in excellent condition. The only flaw for me is that it is located right on the path of the Via Francigena Normanna, I prefer greater isolation.
