I would like to comment on such a literary highlight with a few words from the Italian Nobel laureate in Literature, Dario Fo (1926–2016), who, “following in the footsteps of medieval jesters, castigates power and restores the dignity of the weak and the humiliated,” as the Nobel Prize Committee justified its selection in 1997. Fo stated: “...that I have learned to free myself from conventional literary writing and to express myself with words...”

A short circular path around a fishing pond. Depending on the season, the vegetation can be a bit denser. Easily walkable.

A great place to rest. Depending on the direction you approach the rest area from, it's a great place to refuel for a cobblestone sprint or to lick your wounds. 😅😁

The column altar is designed in the Baroque style. In 1705, a master from Eilenburg carved it and anchored the Bible verse 1 Cor. 13, verse 13, in the wood: "Believe rightly, love fervently, hope constantly". As an additional text, there is a painted inscription: "suffer patiently". In the middle section is the crucified Christ, next to him on the left kneeling Mary Magdalene, on the right a broken but still budding tree can be seen, below a picture of the Last Supper. The pulpit was made in the Baroque style in 1726 by a master from Taucha. The wrought iron candlestick dates from the Protestant Peace Decade of the years around 1985. It shows that it is possible to forge a sword into a plowshare. Above the baptismal font is a wheel of candles, which reminds us of the suffering of war in all directions. The church, dedicated to Saint Lawrence of Rome, was built between 1206 and 1208 as a fortified church in the late Romanesque style. This can be seen in the north windows, the triumphal arch, the fresco remains on the north wall and next to the pulpit, the baptismal font and the altar table. The church probably originally belonged to a monastery brotherhood - this would explain the unusually large building complex for a village church. The building is a plastered fieldstone structure and has a roof turret. The church tower is unplastered and has an unusual baroque dome with a double spire. There is a slightly recessed choir closed on three sides with buttresses and tracery windows with trefoils. There were extensive structural changes around 1500. The collapsed church tower was given its current form, the roof dome dates from 1678. The chancel was added in 1504. Half a figure of a saint can still be seen on the edge of the Romanesque chancel: the previous chancel was painted with the twelve apostles. Since the reconstruction in the Gothic style, the church has had a net vault. At that time, larger windows were broken into the south side and a stone gallery was built. In 1638, Swedish troops stood at the oak door of the gable and threatened the last inhabitants. At the end of the Thirty Years' War, the place was completely destroyed and deserted, only the church remained standing. In the tower knob, a document records the names of the citizens who brought life back to the village after 1649. As the community grew, the wooden gallery begun in 1583 was extended in 1666 and 1823. The four oldest fields on the north side are painted with pictures. In the 18th century, leaded glass windows and the tower clock were installed. During the most recent interior renovation (1984-1992), the church was repainted in the style of the construction phase of 1504 - with similarities to St. Thomas Church in Leipzig and the church in Podelwitz: white walls and white ceiling panels with reddish-brown vault ribs. Although the church was a construction site during the years of renovation, services continued to take place. In 1994, the leaded glass windows from 1891 were restored.
