The hike along the lake to the ruins of Hald Slot, as well as the ruins themselves, are always worth a visit.

Marvellous forest with hiking path going up and down. Makes you feel like being there for a 1000 years ago.

The ruins of Hald Castle are attached to the estate of the manor house to the west. It is on a small island on the edge of Hald Sø. A short detour is worthwhile - especially for a photo from the castle tower.

Lake Hald is also a very good swimming / bathing spot - the best in central part of Jutland. There is both good access at the most southern point where there is a pier with a ladder down to shallow water https://goo.gl/maps/LeeXbfu9t5C5ht8b8 and in the north end where there is a club with a sauna that takes a dip all winter http://haldege.itj.dk. The southern pier is most popular with open water swimmers that can be seen from spring into the autumn wearing wetsuits. First in July and August is the lake hot enough for longer swims in bathing suit, but you can easily take a shorter dip.

Hald Lake is something special and the 1600 hectare area is a nature reserve. Every year around a quarter of a million people visit Hald Lake and the Dollerup Hills. The nature is very varied and is known for its ice age geology. The glacial valleys and the over 31 meter deep Hald Lake were created by the forces of the ice age. The beautiful nature with the deep lake, trickling streams, quiet forests and extensive heaths forms the breeding ground for a diverse plant and animal life.
