Nyborg Slot (Nyborg Castle), also called Danehofslottet (Danehof Palace), was built around 1170 by Duke Knud Prislavsen, a nephew of Valdemar the Great, as a defense against the Wends. The castle served as a residence for Danish kings for centuries.
