The city lake is also a fantastic place for birdwatching. You'll see herons, cormorants, geese (lots of them in summer), swans, ducks, and—not a bird, but still found at the lake—the coypu. You just have to keep your eyes peeled. 😀

The campsite is located directly on the water and offers pitches for tents, RVs, and long-term campers. The owner is very friendly, straightforward, and helpful. The restrooms and showers are also in very good and well-maintained condition. One of the best campsites I've visited so far :) You should bring your own food, as the restaurant closes at 8 p.m.

The bench is in just the right place. Not too close to the path, not too far from the water. You see the reflection of the clouds in the pond and think: Perhaps this is the most beautiful moment of the day. A few children are playing under the old linden tree, a bicycle is leaning against the tree, casting a shadow like a hand on its forehead. Behind the reeds, a carp stirs, as if to say: Stay a little longer. It's not a place for big plans. Only for a brief moment of silence. And perhaps a piece of apple.

Kuhlhausen isn't a place for spectacle, but for shade under old trees. The small pond on the edge of town lies there as if forgotten, guarded by frogs and rippled by the wind. You sit down, say nothing at first, and listen to the dragonflies. A tractor chugs along somewhere, and a cuckoo calls farther away. It's these in-between places that make a bike tour perfect—because they want nothing but to be there.

Lots of peace and quiet, a lovely place to swim, camping right by the lake. Hammocks are no problem either. The snack bar is only open Thursday to Monday. On the other days you should be prepared, there are no shops. Bread rolls can be ordered. There are plenty of places to sit with a direct view of the lake.
