The approximately ten-meter-high waterfall in the Luttertal is of natural origin and unique in the nature park. It consists of solid travertine (freshwater limestone). A gorge-like depression below the waterfall is the habitat of various bird species, such as the dipper, wren and grey wagtail.

The Luttertal valley around Großbartloff is filled with freshwater limestone. This is solid travertine or loose calcareous sand. These rocks were formed around 5,000 to 10,000 years ago. The approximately 10 m high steep wall of the natural waterfall consists of solid travertine.
