The Green House is a small converted pavilion that today serves as a shelter and resting place for hikers. The building was originally a historic armory belonging to Duke George II of Saxe-Meiningen.

The free car park is at the end of Basaltwerkstrasse. It is best to park on the left side of the road. We parked on the right and stood in the full summer heat in the afternoon. The small Liegelberg shelter is a great place to stop. There you will find brochures about the Gleichberg area as well as helpful hiking trail signs. We found this place to be very lovingly laid out and detailed. It is a pleasure to look at this place.

The ruins of the hilltop castle are located on the summit of the Straufhain, which at 449 m above sea level is the highest elevation in the Heldburg region. The old name for the castle was "Struphe" and later "Strauf". The later name "Straufhain" for the forest surrounding the castle (a hornbeam and oak forest) is now used equally for the forest, the mountain and the castle ruins. Until recently, the Straufhain ruins were largely hidden by dense deciduous forest and could only be seen from the valley in winter. A bit difficult to reach by bike, but not impossible. It is best to drive here from the bridle path. The trail to Bad Rodach is easy to ride, but a cross bike or mountain bike is an advantage there. I wouldn't ride the column path to Holzhausen or Bad Colberg, this is already a challenge on a mountain bike. By bike it is better to take the bridle path (towards Veste) to Gauerstadt/Billmuthausen or the gravel forest path to Holzhausen. Great corner with a nice hut.
