Greimerath A defensive wall at the "Köpfchen am Kälberborn" dates back to Celtic times. Graves and burial mounds from Roman times have been discovered, as well as a circular gravestone (c. 300 AD), which was brought to the Rheinisches Landesmuseum Trier in 1889. Greimerath was first mentioned in 981 as Grimolderode in a deed of gift from Archbishop Egbert of Trier to the Abbey of St. Paulin. The Abbey of Trier remained the lord of the district until 1802, when the French troops invaded. The Thirty Years' War left behind ruins and great hardship.
