The castle complex probably once consisted of several buildings; Today only the square lookout tower of the castle is preserved, otherwise there are only crumbled walls. The tower has a height of eight to ten meters. In the tower there are still remains of stairs and the historic, crumbled wooden ceiling to the first floor. A few meters away are the remains of a wall and other remains of a tower.
The building complex is characterized by increasing tree vegetation, the ruins were last cut a long time ago. The path to the ruin is steep and also heavily overgrown, which makes access difficult. The ruin, as well as the way there, are no longer maintained these days, which means that the building is expected to continue to deteriorate.
For some time now, the ruins have been separated by fences and entry is no longer possible. The dilapidated building structure and the collapsed building remains make entering it life-threatening, so that not only the building but also its visitors must be protected.

Earlier even more than today they were called the "Steeger donkey". This designation has nothing to do with the "stupid donkey", but comes from a previously practiced in Steeg way of working, which contributed to the work easier.
Since the vineyards were hardly accessed by roads until the 20th century, all loads (fertilizer, ground, grapes) had to be transported on the back on the vineyard paths.
From 1820 on, the peasants brought donkeys to the Steeger valley to facilitate this physically demanding work. Almost every family had acquired such an animal over the years. It was always mares, because they were better guided. On a transport rack, the loads were lashed, but also used small donkey carts.
The animals came from Bavaria, Nassau and France.
Because of the constantly rising purchase prices, the local council decided in 1862 to buy a donkey stallion for the breeding of the animals. The submission was to take place in the bull barn built a year earlier.
Although this transport solution was praised in 1871 in the "Journal of the Agricultural Association" No. 3, but Steeg remained the only community in a wide radius, which used these animals in the manner described.
A cattle counting in the year 1900 determined still 23 donkeys. Until about 1920, the donkeys were used as load carriers and draft animals.

Horn Castle is located about 600 m west of Horn in a marshy headwater area of the Klingelbach. The impressive 4-5 m high, round castle mound has a diameter of 40 m. A 9-12 m wide, in places 1.5 m deep moat surrounds the castle mound. A well is said to have been uncovered in the partly silted up, partly still swampy ditch. Stahlberg Castle is the ruin of a spur castle in a side valley on a mountain spur above the Steeg district of the town of Bacharach. The castle was probably built on behalf of the Archbishops of Cologne, possibly also as a counter-castle to Stahleck Castle. A very beautiful architecture. Very nice place.
