The refuge is right on the Schinderhannes cycle path (38km), which is crossed here by the "Traumschleifchen Baybachquellen". "The Schinderhannes cycle path in the Hunsrück is one of the longest cycle paths in Germany that runs consistently along a railway line. From Emmelshausen, which is already 450 m above sea level, the former railway line of the Hunsrück railway takes us without much effort to an altitude of over 480 m and past the beautiful old town of Kastellaun with its castle. After a short ascent, it goes down to Simmern, which is only 335 m above sea level. The history of this region, in which the robber "Schinderhannes" was up to mischief at the time of Napoleon, gave the cycle path its name.
