Anyone traveling between Wannenberg and Wasenhütte simply MUST take a moment to reflect and enjoy this biotope in peace. Ideally, you should even repeat the loop two or three times – and the different light alone makes everything shine in a new light. Always impressive – in every season... of course, the mountain bikes are pushed.

This is the Winterihau biotope, and there was a small mistake. An obsolescent oasis of peace, a natural paradise. Always push your bikes—and take your time, lots of time. Walk through it a few times, looking for and finding hidden beauties...

The biotope is not a trail paradise but a nature reserve. Please respect that and only visit it on foot.

A natural paradise - an oasis of peace

A small island in the middle, as a resting place for the birds, where they can retreat. Everything is so beautiful in all seasons. And every season there is something different that catches your eye. I like to stop here and enjoy this beautiful view of this little oasis of peace, the water reflections are so often simply fantastic that it is difficult to cycle away again. And the swan, when it begins its elegant dance on the water, almost enchanting me, as if sensing my admiration, just doesn't stop. Ind turns in circles, hides from me under the bridge, and then again swims so elegantly, and he wraps his long neck back and forth, and then keeps his whole head under the surface of the water. And then he's back, looking at me...

The 13.4 hectare protected area is located in the east of the Klingnau reservoir. The area is home to the largest oxbow lake in the lower Aaretahl, which has escaped exploration and agricultural use. Extensive reed beds and open water areas characterize the habitat for amphibians, fish and birds.

Swampy area near the Klingnau reservoir, offers space for many animal species. Beavers are at work, many ducks find shelter here, and swans can also be seen. An asphalted cycle path leads you through this beautiful area.
