Former hunting lodge of the Hessian Electors, which today serves as a cozy refuge, as well as a historic rampart from 1866 with a forest nature trail.

A measure that is unique to the Weseraue bird sanctuary is the refilling or removal of soil from several former excavation areas to a significantly lower level, close to the groundwater. This has created large areas that are flooded for longer periods of the year and thus provide a habitat for rare animals and plants that are typical of river floodplains. The mud banks, which occasionally dry out, have numerous specialized plant species. The extensive water change zones within the bird sanctuary are a particular attraction for numerous wader species, the so-called waders. In order to keep the valuable habitats open, frugal cattle and horses graze over large areas in the "Windheimer Marsch". Various waders and water birds such as little ringed plover, dunlin, oystercatcher, greenshank, redshank, Temminck's stint, common sandpiper, garganey, shoveler and teal can be found here at times.

The “Green Hunter” is a small half-timbered house in the Großes Holz state forest in Darlaten. It dates from 1795 and was the home of the state forest's lumberjacks until around 1920. It was then lived in by the Neidler couple until 1977. In 1975, targeted attempts to preserve the "Green Hunter" began in Darlaten. In order to save the building from decay and demolition, the Altes Amt Uchte tourist association took it into its care in 1977. The only historical building in Darlaten was no longer there to save. A renovation was out of the question for cost reasons. So it was decided to build a new building, which was, however, on the old site. The official inauguration took place in 1992. A brand new beautiful refuge on the Weserradweg in Diethe!👍🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️😊 It replaces the gloomy old refuge that burned down years ago and has completely disappeared. Good news for cyclists!😊
