The quaint building is the old service cabin of August Ganghofer, the father of the writer Ludwig Ganghofer. It represents the family's forestry background and the forest that strongly influenced Ludwig's childhood. August Ganghofer was not only the district forester in Welden, but later pursued a career as a forestry expert.

The Naturfreundehaus is open Saturdays and Sundays in the summer and only Sundays in the winter, making it a great place to stop for a bite to eat during your hike.
