Forchheim Castle was built in 1558 for Christoph von Berbisdorf. The city of Chemnitz acquired the castle in 1912, as it did with other manors and properties in the area. It needed large areas to build the Saidenbach Dam. Construction was delayed until well after the end of the First World War. The castle was used by the forestry administration and as a children's convalescent home. It later served as the hunting lodge of the notorious Martin Mutschmann. From 1953, Niederforchheim Castle was used as a kindergarten. The outbuildings were demolished in the 1970s. The kindergarten moved out in 1999. The previous year, the castle was purchased privately. Since then, the castle has been renovated and surrounded by a high wall. Source:https://sachsens-schloesser.de/pockau-lengefeld-schloss-forchheim/

There was probably already a so-called spur castle here on the Zschopau in the 12th century. That was the name given to the fortifications that stood on a rocky spur, but not on the top of a mountain. In old documents you can find the name "manor house of Werner de Ertmarsdorf". The complex was later converted into a manor and castle. Its current appearance goes back to Hans Heinrich von Könneritz. In 2000, the castle's outbuilding was restored. In addition to four apartments, club rooms and an exhibition room were created on the ground floor. Source: https://www.ins-erzgebirge.de/Schloss-Erdmannsdorf

Pfaffroda was first settled in 1209. A solid house was first built on a rocky outcrop. It was not until 1352, when the knightly family of the von Schönbergs took over the property, that it was expanded into a castle and then into a palace in 1575. 1847 The small courtyard between the manor house and the outbuildings was added and a new distillery was built in it (today the main staircase). 1867 King John of Saxony visited the von Schönberg family. 1872 The crypt chapel was built in the palace park. 1907 & 1914 King Friedrich August visits 1929 On the occasion of the 50th birthday of Alfons Diener von Schönberg (owner of the Pfaffroda Castle until 1936) the ornamental planting is planted in the Bärenbachtal 1947 to 1997 first Feierabendheim Pfaffroda later a retirement home, a facility of the social enterprises of the central Erzgebirge district. Since 2017 the castle has been owned by the Diener von Schönberg family again.

Augustusburg Castle towers high above the Zschopau Valley on the edge of the Ore Mountains. Elector Augustus of Saxony had the monumental Renaissance castle built over 450 years ago as a symbol of his power. Today, it houses unparalleled cultural treasures and exhibitions. Here you'll discover one of Europe's most important bicycle collections, one of Saxony's most valuable Cranach paintings, Saxony's second-deepest well in the well house, and much more. https://www.asl-schloesser.de/

Eye-catcher from afar. After the owner died, the new owner wants to make the facility accessible to the public. A lot of construction is currently underway and the first events have already taken place. It will be exciting...

It is the oldest tunnel in Saxony and runs under the courtyard of the castle. Only a mirror, no traffic light, serves as an orientation aid for drivers when it comes to oncoming traffic, because only one car can just about fit through.

The choice of the location where the Saxon Elector August had the castle built between 1568 and 1572 is special. On a 516 meter high cone made of quartz porphyry, the hunting and pleasure palace rises visibly above the Zschopau valley. Because of this imposing location, Augustusburg Castle is called the Crown of the Ore Mountains. And it also looks a bit like a crown: Four square corner houses and intermediate buildings mark the hilltop. Inside, they reveal the imposing inner courtyard of a renaissance castle.

The manor house - also known as the "Lower Manor House" - was built in the 16th century. It is a simple and unpretentious renaissance style building. The new owner had a wall built around the facility in recent years. Even if you cannot visit it, it is worth stopping your trip here.

Rauenstein Castle is a castle complex in the Rauenstein district of the town of Pockau-Lengefeld (Erzgebirge). The complex was used to monitor the Flöha crossing. The castle now appears to be privately owned and can no longer be easily entered. In the past, people could go there for a spa treatment. The castle was first mentioned in 1323, but archaeological research suggests that it was first built around 1200. The first lords of Rauenstein were the Schellenbergers. After several changes of ruler, the castle became the property of the Electorate of Saxony in 1567. The Rauenstein office that had been established was added to Wolkenstein in 1596. Major structural changes were made around 1630. The road tunnel also dates from this time. From 1651 to 1743, the castle was leased to the von Römer family, who had become very wealthy in the Schneeberg area through silver mining. The owners Christian August Hähnel, who had acquired Rauenstein in 1816, his nephew Wolfgang Freiherr von Herder (grandson of the poet Johann Gottfried Herder and owner from 1843 to 1853) and his cousin Wilhelm Freiherr von Herder were members of the Saxon state parliament. The next owner, Gottfried Freiherr von Herder, was a German conservative member of the Reichstag from 1893 to 1898. During the Second World War, valuable books from Leipzig were stored there, which were then taken to the Soviet Union after the war. After being expropriated as part of the land reform in 1945, the castle served as a children's convalescent home and has been in the family ownership of the Barons von Herder since 1999 after being bought back by the district of Mittleres Erzgebirge. The current owner is Carl Wilhelm von Herder (* 1926), the great-great-great-grandson of the poet Johann Gottfried von Herder. The castle can only be viewed from the outside.

It used to be the Forchheim kindergarten and the dentist also had his practice here. However, the manor has been in private hands for a number of years. The new owners have renovated and modernized a lot.

A unique construction. The road between Lengefeld and Reifland runs right under the castle. The passage is limited (so do not use vehicles that are too high or too wide).
