A beautiful forest path accompanies the former railway construction site from 1847, which was the first attempt to connect the cities of Kassel and Paderborn by rail. The plan was to build a tunnel through the Egge. The reluctance of investors led to the operator going bankrupt and the state of Prussia having to take over the construction of the railway line. However, Prussia decided to abandon this project and build an above-ground route over the Egge. It is exciting that the construction site here has been beautifully restored, so that the relics can be easily understood thanks to detailed information boards. The cut at the western tunnel portal (which was never completed) is particularly impressive. It is amazing what was done there without dynamite and by hand.
