They have an empirically proven method at their disposal, provided by the volcano itself: two cracks in the mountain that predict the weather. Locals know: "If the fumes from the cracks burn your nose, it's a sign of a thunderstorm. If not, it will be a sunny day, perfect for hiking."

Hello. It was in the news that the lake will be emptied this fall of 2025 for the 50 years dam revision. Around end of febr 2026 the dam will be completly drained and the lake bed and bottom parts of the dam will be visible.

Green-turquoise lake. Also suitable for swimming.

It has a special nuance, only in spring, when the water is not disturbed. The landscape is very beautiful, the ideal area for hiking, but I also saw cyclists in the area. It is worth visiting

Bâlea Lac is an amazing lake to visit. Just by the most famous road in Romania, Transfăgăråșan. Stop by at a restaurant here with a view towards the lake if you feel hungry. Awesome landscape and road to the lake.

Staying overnight in this hostel is recommended due to its prime location. The rooms are clean and simply furnished. The food from the grill is good, breakfast is very regional, simple and good.
