No outside water tap, shelter often closed

A dreamily situated mountain resort with attention to detail. Each cabin is individually and tastefully decorated. The main building/restaurant has a real mountain lodge feel. Several charming hiking trails, almost all of them circular, pass through this resort, making it worthwhile to spend a night or two there.

A stopover if you are on the way to Mitikas. Here you can buy food and drinks. Souvenirs and equipment are also available. If you need a helmet, you can rent one here. The landlady is very nice and she speaks English and German. You can not only stay in the hut, but you can also sleep in a tent if you have brought one with you.

Strenuous mountain hike, surefootedness and alpine experience required

The only serviced hut in western Crete at an altitude of 1,680 metres. Even in summer, the temperatures up here are pleasant, below 20 degrees. There is a gravel track up, but walking is more exciting. The path begins right at the entrance to the Samaria Gorge and later leads into the gravel track. It is around 4 km and 300 metres in altitude to overcome. Great view of the Samaria Gorge from the top.
