The Noon Gate is the most beautiful of the four entrance gates to the Imperial City. It was built in 1833 by Minh Mang in the style of the gate of the same name in Beijing. The reign of the Nguyen Dynasty ended here in 1945 when the last emperor, Bao Dai, handed over his regalia to Ho Chi Minh.

The citadel contains an imperial palace modeled on the Forbidden City in Beijing, which it followed in a smaller format. The Citadel of Hue is a complex of approximately 500 hectares, consisting of three parts. The citadel was the emperor's imperial city. The Forbidden City was reserved only for the court and soldiers with their families. Other people were not allowed inside. Anyone attempting to enter the emperor's private quarters, except for his wives, cuncubines, children, and eunuchs, was punishable by death. The city lies between Hanoi and Saigon on the northern bank of the Perfume River. When visiting the citadel, one should dress modestly (loose everyday clothing). It is worth purchasing a combination ticket for the citadel and three other tombs.

The various entrances to the Imperial City and also within it are interesting because they show how they are used (who is allowed to enter where). Side entrances were used by people of lower rank, large middle entrances by the king, etc.
