Fridau Castle was first mentioned in 1299 and was rebuilt in the Rococo style in 1753 during the reign of Maria Theresa. The stateroom features a beautiful ceiling painting by Daniel Gran. The castle served as a place of refuge for the community's residents during the Turkish siege and was able to successfully defend itself against the Turks. It was only under Napoleon's rule that the building was conquered and plundered. Around 1750, a fabric factory was set up in the castle and the adjacent outbuildings. During World War II, it served as a military hospital and then as the commandant's office for the Russian occupation. In 1975, the state of Lower Austria bought the castle building. However, the plan to house the state galleries there was abandoned.

The complex was first mentioned as the seat of the Udalschalk von Wald in 1140. In the 15th century, Jörg Scheck von Wald expanded the complex like a castle. In 1485, the troops of Matthias Corvinus stormed the castle, which was expanded in the Renaissance style by the Lords of Greiß in the 16th century. In 1683 the Turks conquered the castle. The Spindler von Hofeck family was the owner from 1687 to 1782. They were followed by Count Fuchs von Fuchsberg until 1817. This year, Jerome Bonaparte appears briefly as an exile under the name Hieronymus Fürst von Montfort as the owner. The next owner was Franz Freiherr von Pillersdorf. Between 1847 and 1928, forest belonged to Count Haugwitz. From 1848 onwards they had the new castle added to the old castle. Baron Friedrich Baratta-Dragom, a grandson of Karl Wilhelm Graf Haugwitz, eventually took over the estate, but had to have it auctioned off during the global economic crisis in 1930. The buyer was Prince Karl Auersperg-Breunner, whose family still owns it today.

Ochsenburg Castle stands on a roughly 30-meter-high rocky outcrop on the right bank of the Traisen River. The medieval castle of the Ochsenburg family was rebuilt into a Renaissance-style palace during the 16th century. In 1785, the newly established Diocese of St. Pölten was granted the right to use it. During World War II, the castle was used as a military hospital and subsequently fell into disrepair. Since its renovation, it has served as a summer residence for the bishops of St. Pölten. In 2010, it was announced that the Diocese of St. Pölten was putting Ochsenburg Castle up for sale for approximately three million euros. Because no buyer had been found by mid-2011, it was announced that the castle was being renovated and could now be rented for celebrations. The castle and the estate located immediately to the east are listed as historical monuments.

To the south of the market, the crest (495 m) of a wooded mountain forms a small rock plateau that supported the stronghold, the lower parts of the complex are on the side of the mountain facing away from the market. The castle path winds around the western slope of the castle hill and climbs from the southeast to a round, approximately 8 m high gate tower. This has a short wall approach to the outside. The tower did not initially function as a gate tower; the castle entrance was further north. Remnants of the defensive wall pull up from the tower through the wooded slope to Berchfrit. From the "gate tower" the further access leads only slightly uphill northwards. The name Zwinger is not fully justified because the castle wall runs on the mountain side, but there is no boundary wall on the valley side. Further to the north, the missing wall is replaced by lining walls that lead to a square bastion in front of the castle entrance. The inner boundary wall of the "Zwinger" is partially upright, two shell towers are inserted into it, in the southeast with a horseshoe-shaped, in the northeast with a square plan.

On the way to the Ochsenburger hut / Rudolfshöhe you come here. The Schloss Kreisbach dates back to the 12th Century, owners were u.a. in the 16th century the counts Jörger (s.a. Jörgerstrasse in Vienna-Hernals) who were finally expropriated as Protestants. The Lilienfeld Abbey took over and rebuilt the castle afterwards. From the previously imposing building with four towers and a defensive wall, only the east wing remains. Until 2001, the only developed road of the Kreisbachtal passed through the castle, now there is a bypass. The Kulturverein Schloss Kreisbach has revitalized the building, there are events and rooms for weddings and celebrations. www.kreisbach.at

Beautiful to look at. Who knows if it's privately owned like the other castles in this region.
