The small trickle feeds the small brook through the city park with the interesting zigzag path. Despite the low water flow, the stream was part of the historic drinking water supply of a Monschau factory owner's property.
In the 17th century, barriers (grindels) with chains, barriers and guard rooms were erected in front of the city fortifications on all access roads to Monschau in order to better control people and goods coming into the city.
