The Sauerbrunnen is a carbonic mineral spring with a high iron content. The occurrence of this "acidic element" is associated with a geotectonic fault structure. Water and dissolved carbon dioxide rise from the deeper layers through fissures and faults. At a depth of approximately 10-20 cm, there is a layer of red iron, from which the slightly acidic water dissolves the mineral compounds, which settle on the surface as rust-colored spring sediment. The outflow area of the spring presents a very bizarre sight due to its reddish color and the mineral deposits on submerged roots and stones, a sight that one encounters several times on the way to the spring.
