Mount Diablo, is the Bay Area second-highest peak at 1173m (3849ft). The challenging climb features constantly fluctuating gradients averaging 8%, with tough sections up to 18% and a brutal 23% finish in the last 200m. The equally demanding descent requires good bike handling due to tight corners, potholes, and strong winds. The road to the top is open daily from 8 AM till sunset.

Biggest peak in the area. If you go when it's open (weekends as of today), you can do the tour of what was once the largest telescope in the world (still one of the biggest refraction telescopes). The observatory is still active

Lick Observatory is a must-visit destination for cyclists, featuring historic and modern telescopes, including the world’s largest glass lens observatory. Free tours provide fascinating insights into astronomy and the observatory’s history. At 4,209 feet, temperatures can drop significantly compared to Silicon Valley, especially in winter—bring warm layers.

Easy and fun hike for kids and adults, with spectacular views over the entire SF Bay, Golden Gate, Marin, Carquinez Straight, San Pablo Reservoir, and Briones Park.

The switchbacks of Centennial Drive open out to a parking lot and overlook. You are treated to sweeping views out across Berkely and San Francisco Bay all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge.
