In the center of the city of Idaho Falls, the Snake River tumbles over rocks and boulders and creates these picturesque waterfalls that span over the river – one of Idaho Falls' many landmarks. If you want to enjoy the view a little longer, take a hike along the Idaho Falls River Walk.

The 1.5-mile loop trail is something special. Out here, you are allowed to hiked on the ancient lava beds and explore as far as you like. To follow the loop, keep your eyes peeled for wooden poles with blue paint that are not easy to spot in places. Leave the masses and developed trails of Craters of the Moon National Monument behind and enjoy the freedom and solitude of Hells Half Acre Wilderness Study Area. You will find so many different shapes of lava rock where you can imagine how the lava flowed through the area. Today, there is cacti, grass and bushes growing on the black surface. Where there are gaps with lots of shade, even ferns have found a place to thrive.

Along the Lava Loop you will explore different shapes of lava rock. At this location, the lava cracked open, leaving gaps big and small in the rugged surface.

The Japanese Friendship Garden is located on a rocky island in the Snake River in Idaho Falls. It was made by volunteers to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the association between Idaho Falls and its sister city of Tokai-Mura. The garden creates a Japanese atmosphere in the middle of Idaho, with the Japanese architecture, small water streams, a deck and a platform. It is a small space, and not ideal for a bike, but if you want to pass by to visit, you can go walking with your bike.

A large river with a modified urban waterfall, surrounded by different species of plants composing the landscape near the river and the trail. This is one of the most tourist spots in Idaho Falls, with lots of restaurants around, nice gardens along the trail, and a public library close by. Behind the waterfall there’s also a dam, composing a beautiful and relaxing area to visit.

The Idaho Falls Pier is located along the Snake River and is connected with the Greenbelt trail system that runs to historic downtown Idaho Falls. This pier is very charming, with benches to sit in, it can be a nice place to stop by and appreciate the river as it flows. The pier can be rented through the Department of Recreation of Idaho Falls, for events such as weddings, birthdays, community events, and more.
