The semicircular bastion of the 13th-century city fortifications, along with three other tall fortress towers and the city wall, provided secure protection to the west. The course of the former city wall is marked by a projection of several meters to the west in the area of the St. Gertrude Chapel. The corner is formed by a stately bastion. It has a rectangular floor plan with a semicircular western end, which originally extended into the Weser arm flowing past it. Built of 1.40 m thick rubble stone masonry, the bastion consists of a base story with a surrounding slope and locking openings on the sides, a first floor with slit windows, and a second floor with keyhole slits. The tower has been restored and fitted with a steel viewing platform. Beautiful views from there!

The ascent from the main tower has been renovated and can be climbed. A great vantage point that rewards the steep climb.

Great walk with a view from the castle ruins. On the way there is a very nice newly designed playground with a cable car and much more. At the end a friendly team from the Mittendorffs Park forest restaurant is waiting. The tower itself is still closed!

The castle grounds were accessible on October 13, 1924.
