Quiaios Waterfall, Figueira da Foz

The Fraga da Pena Waterfall, located in the Serra do Açor Protected Landscape, is a geological feature crossed by the Barroca de Degraínhos, creating a series of successive waterfalls. The waterfall is 19 meters high. Along its banks are some ancient specimens of the Portuguese oak (Quercus robur) and the chestnut tree (Castanea sativa), as well as the strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo), the thorny Daphne gnidium, and the adernos (Phillyrea latifolia and P. angustifolia).

I visited in mid-June 2025 and was surprised at how much water was still running. How nice that we had a rainy winter.

Another of the beautiful waterfalls that we can find on the Corvo River. To access this waterfall you need to go down a few meters along a small path next to the M564 road.

Seville, a distinctly rural village, has as one of its treasures the mill area, with a dam creating a large body of water creating a beautiful two-tiered waterfall. According to information gathered from local residents, water runs through the waterfall all year round.

Second week June 2025, not a single drop of water on the river. Seems the river only have water during winter season.

Beautiful and relaxed route

The route is very pretty, surrounded by trees in the first half of the journey. However, we went in February and the river was practically empty. There is no trace of the falls.
