Second week June 2025, not a single drop of water on the river. Seems the river only have water during winter season.

The route is very pretty, surrounded by trees in the first half of the journey. However, we went in February and the river was practically empty. There is no trace of the falls.

The Quelhas stream, with its stunning waterfalls and lagoons, is one of the natural gems of the Serra da Lousã. Until 2020, discovering its secrets required tackling one of the most challenging trails in the mountain range, with climbing sections, or venturing out along the course of the stream. Today, with the construction of walkways, exploring this paradise has become much more accessible. And if the heat gets too much, bring your swimsuit; the crystal-clear waters are an irresistible invitation for a refreshing dip!

The path is very nice to walk and can be combined with a visit to the ruins. But be careful: the river only has water between November and March. We were there in May and didn't see a drop of water. So no waterfall either.

There is a beautiful hiking trail leading to the waterfall. The rock face is criss-crossed with various paths, stairs and benches.

Scary but rewarding climb

A very beautiful waterfall and place to relax, but difficult to get here by bike.

Incredibly beautiful waterfalls + bathing pools can be found here. There are several cascades in which you can swim. The descent is not easy and requires sturdy shoes. You also have to scramble a bit. Safety ropes sometimes help with the descent.
