Since the old viewpoint became overgrown, I climbed/scrolled up this rock. Recommended only in dry conditions and for sure footing.

The trail starts at the road and ends at the ruins. However, you can walk along the coastal path to the end of the island.

A small chapel containing the tomb of the last king of Gambier, Maputeoa Gregorio, who died in 1857. This site also houses a cemetery, which is still used by the local population.

Incredibly large cathedral for such a small place. Built between 1839 and 1848 and extensively renovated in 2011.

Small cruise ships use the jetty to dock their tender boats. There are also a few souvenir stands there with shells, tikis, clothing and jewelry. The beach is rocky and full of broken coral. You definitely need swimming shoes. But you can see the stones clearly in the crystal clear water.

This is where you sail into the atoll. Larger ships can only do this at certain times. If you're lucky, you can also see dolphins or sharks here.

Beautiful view over the entire Gambier archipelago after a somewhat strenuous but doable climb.

Wonderful beach at PK 9. But take your water shoes because there is a lot of coral above the soft sand.
