5월 23, 2025, Anchiskhati Basilica
The original name of the church is unknown. Its current name is taken from a supposedly miraculous 12th-century icon of the Savior, which had been kept in the church since the 17th century and is now on display in the Georgian State Museum of Arts in Tbilisi. The silver icon (Georgian: Khati) came from the Anchi Church in southern Georgia. Its creator was Beka Opisari, a master silversmith of his era (Wikipedia).

With his love of modern architecture, former President Mikheil Saakashvili designed the Peace Bridge, built in 2010, to resemble a gentle wave. Connecting the old town with new residential areas, the 156-meter-long Peace Bridge spans the Kura River. The new town has become a vibrant consumer paradise, home primarily to older people. 11월 10, 2023, Old Town Tbilisi
Tbilisi (Georgian თბილისი Tbilisi [tʰbɪˈɫɪsɪ]; until 1936 ტფილისი Tpilisi [tʼpʰɪˈɫɪsɪ]) is the capital of Georgia. It is the most populous and largest city in the country. Tbilisi has more than a million inhabitants, the total area is 726 square kilometers, and the built-up area is around 70 square kilometers. On the right bank of the Kura, above the old town, lie the ruins of the 3rd century Nariqala Fortress. Above the fortifications stands the monumental statue Kartlis Deda (German: 'Mother of Georgia'). There is a 128-hectare botanical garden underneath. It was created in 1845 on the grounds of the fortress park. The old town with narrow, winding cobblestone streets is to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are the Sioni Cathedral from the 5th century, the Metekhi Church of the Georgian Kings from the 13th century, the Anchishati Basilica from the 6th century and the Great Synagogue. The Silk Road once ran through the old town. Their old caravanserais still stand today. The houses are mostly made of wood and have carved overhanging balconies. In the Abanotubani spa district there are 17th century sulfur baths and a mosque. Adjacent to the old town are the magnificent buildings of the 19th century in the Garetubani district. The centerpiece is the Rustaveli Boulevard, lined with plane trees, between Freedom Square and Republic Square. It is home to, among other things, the Kashveti Church, the State Picture Gallery, the Historical Museum, the State Rustaveli Theater, the Opera and the Parliament Building. The Kura is lined with wide riverside boulevards, where, however, cars dominate pedestrians on multi-lane roads. Source and further information: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tbilisi

Stepantsminda is located at 1700 m on the Terek River and at the eastern foot of the 5047 m high Mount Kazbek in the Greater Caucasus. The historic Georgian Military Road, now the international highway S3 and European Route 117, which connects Georgia with Russia, runs through the town. The area was already populated during ancient times. In 1877, a treasure from the 4th to 5th centuries BC was discovered in Stepantsminda. BC, consisting of silver cups, iron jugs and bracelets as well as statuettes of animals and people. Stepantsminda (German “Saint Stephen”) is named after the first Christian martyr Stephanus (Georgian Stepan; წმინდა/zminda means “holy”). In 1921 (according to other information 1925) the place was renamed Qazbegi (ყაზბეგი), in honor of Aleksandre Qazbegi (1848–1893), who was born there, one of the most famous Georgian writers. He came from the family of Qasibeg Chopikashvili, an area supervisor during the construction of the military road, who had made outstanding contributions to building bridges in the nearby Darial Gorge. Since 2006, the place has had its original name again, but the surrounding administrative unit (municipality) continues to be called Qasbegi (Qasbegi Municipality, Georgian Qasbegis munizipaliteti). The mother of Georgia was automatically added to my evening walk by Komoot. That's a mistake - it's far away, and it's by no means part of an Old Town walk.
