The first church was built here shortly after 1300. The current church building made of stone was inaugurated in February 1773. The wooden bell tower, built in the 19th century, stands separately. The 18th-century organ was bought from Kalmar Cathedral in 1883.

Monument to Småland's freedom heroes

Nils Dacke was born on the Hult farm in Vissefjärda municipality. Vissefjärda used to be an important border area in trade with Denmark. The so-called "Dackefejden" took place here in 1543. The feud led by Nils Dacke was due to great dissatisfaction with King Gustav Wasa. The stone comes from Nils Dackes Hof in Södra Lindön. On the stone there is a crossbow symbolically pointing to King Gustav Wasa in the direction of Stockholm.

Close to Vissefjärda church and at the shores of Kyrksjön, you find the Nils Dacke Memorial. Nils Dacke († 1543) was a Swedish peasant and legendary resistance leader from the southern Swedish province of Småland.
