Devil's Chair 529.2m P9.7 Shropshire National Landscape Definitive List summit.

Be willing to climb to the trig point as it’s placed on top of the summit rock.

The Devil's Chair is a prominent rock formation located on the Stiperstones ridge in the Shropshire Hills. The ridge is part of the Stiperstones National Nature Reserve and is known for its jagged quartzite rocks, of which the Devil's Chair is the most famous. It stands at around 536 meters and offers sweeping views of the surrounding countryside, including the Welsh borderlands and the Shropshire plains.

Go up the lane past the steep access-path, go past a spring which crosses the stoney lane, arrive at a gate that gives easier access to the summit !! (Only discovered after having hauled my 78years up the previous path!!) Definitely going again! Offa*s Dyke path clearly visible over Long Mountain !! Peter P. from N/C u Lyme.

Super nice series of rocks that make for a good scrambling play area, or a rest stop. A very nice place with good views on a sky blue day.

Pleasant enough waterfall, but tends to be busy with visitors.

Route up to the waterfall is being made increasingly idiot proof ("accessible") by National Trust footpath "improvers". Flow over the waterfall is becoming insignificant due to reduced rainfall in recent times. At the height of last summer (2022) it was a mere trickle and already by Feb this year it's barely more!

Great little scramble up onto the Mynd.

Proper little mini shark fin ridge this is. The trig point is in a glorious setting sat right on top of a rocky little pinnacle that is nice little scramble. The whole ridge is interesting with its little rocky fins strutting out into the sky. It is also a UK designated Marilyn at 536m high. Lovely summer day out!

Far west of the Shropshire hills and probably the quieter of the bunch, ensure to climb to the trig point to officially bag this peak. 🏔

Beautiful rest spot on the way up to Pole Bank. The walking in the Carding valley up to here is simply beautiful. As Tom (above) has pointed out though it is a very busy and popular spot with lots of school groups.

A great little hike to do. Lovely trig pointed/cairned summit and a great viewpoint out over the surrounding area to boot.

The Stiperstones is a distinctive hill in the county of Shropshire, England. The quartzite rock of the ridge formed some 480 million years ago. During the last Ice Age, Stiperstones lay on the eastern margin of the Welsh ice sheet. The hill itself was not glaciated though glaciers occupied surrounding valleys and it was subject to intense freezing and thawing which shattered the quartzite into a mass of jumbled scree surrounding several residual rocky tors. At 536 metres (1,759 ft) above sea level, it is the second-highest hill in the county, surpassed only by Brown Clee Hill (540 metres (1,772 ft). Stiperstones' 8-kilometre (5 mi) summit ridge is crowned by several jagged outcrops of rock, which may be seen silhouetted against the sky.

This is a surprisingly steep ascent. Once you commit to the climb, there's no turning back — it's inwards and upwards to the top. Be careful as you go. You need to be very sure footed to attempt this ascent. Good luck.

Make sure you sit on the stones! Hope you get better view than I did!

On a good weather day the views are spectacular but the ridge is exposed and can be jagged and uneven underfoot so be careful when passing through. If you are doing this as part of the Shropshire Way, be careful not to follow the crowd down towards the Knowles car park you will want to carry on towards Nipstone.
