It's always refreshing to discover a moment of solitude in a nature reserve within a bustling city. This reserve features a beautiful lake that you can stroll around, along with interconnected trails that wind through the river and woodland.

Brent Reservoir is a good place to escape the urban nature of London, especially on the Welsh Harp Open Space, or north side of the water. There are trails that go through the woods, and the reservoir is often busy with canoeists and small sailboats. There are plenty of ducks and swans to look at too, as well as lots of benches to rest on. The north shore is also part of the Capital Ring, a circular walking trail of around 78 miles (125 km) in length that circles London.

The Decoy Brook rises from Sandy Heath where the sand meets the clay. The Extension covers 125 acres of former agricultural land following the formation of the Hampstead Heath Extension Council in 1903 to prevent the Underground reaching the area. There's a series of 7 ponds as well as Great Wall, between Hampstead Way and North Point, designed by Charles Wade for Unwin at the southern edge of Hampstead Garden Suburb and inspired by medieval German towns, particularly Rothenburg.

Perched above North London, Hadley Green acts as a gateway on the nicest way out and back into the city. A good spot to pause and feed the ducks before cycling through Barnet and down the hill back to 'town'.

Superb climb up to Mill Hill pond and village, a beautiful old (see Almshouses stone inscribed 1696) part of English semi rural semi scholastic life. Lots of really interesting old architecture to enjoy whilst peddling along. Middle section has a nice swoosh down hill then a nice sharp but short leg burner ( if you stand on the pedals!) up Highwood Hill.

The Welsh Harp ~ Brent Reservoir is the perfect place where going for a short break after work or if you are fancy of long walk or run surrounded by nature. There are few paths which you can follow and the full tour around the lake is about 8 km. It can be quite challenge in some spot, expecially on south east area of the lake, where stuff are starting to falling apart.Still, it is a lovely park, one of the most natural and rural in London city.
