Until the beginning of the 19th century, the Hoisbüttel estate was shaken by constantly changing owners. In 1810, Peter Friedrich Adolph von Schmettau took over the village together with his wife Hedwig. She quickly made a name for herself as the humane and helpful countess, who was always at the side of her subjects. Her death in 1858 touched the citizens so much that they dedicated a memorial stone to her on the Schüberg, Haisbüttel's landmark.
