Following the construction of observation towers on the Deister and Süntel mountain ranges, Wilhelm Falke, a quarry owner from Hanover, planned a similar structure on the Lauensteiner Kopf, the highest point of the Ith (439 m). A first wooden tower, the "Wilhelm Tower," was inaugurated on May 24, 1885. The new stone Ith Tower was built from dolomite by Fr. Schucht from Bisperode and opened on May 16, 1912. The tower is 13.80 m high, and the staircase has 63 steps. The tower is open to visitors at all times, but there is no staff on site.

The Möncheberg shelter is located in the heart of the Wesergebirge ridge nature reserve, a protected forest area known for its ancient beech trees, calcareous slopes, and rare flora and fauna. Those who climb the narrow path to the shelter will find a tranquil retreat, surrounded by the gentle rustling of the forest and the soft light filtering through the canopy. The shelter serves hikers as a short rest stop and offers a glimpse into the diverse, pristine landscape of the Wesergebirge – a place where the peace of nature can be experienced most directly.

Well, is this a real highlight? Some of the paths shown in Komoot (the northern and southern paths) are no longer passable or recognizable. You don't have a nice view here and, as in many other places, you can clearly see the damage caused by climate change. But maybe it's worth coming here just because of the points mentioned. It is and remains the highest point of the Ahornberg, it is not very frequented and you can still enjoy nature. Perhaps the destruction shows how important our nature is. I was able to easily reach the "summit" from the western route.

The Ahornberg is a 277 m high mountain in the Weserbergland. Its hilltop, which used to be overgrown with spruces, is now bare and there are still a lot of dead trees around. However, grass and deciduous trees are now growing back. The slopes of the Ahornberg are mainly covered with beech trees, most of which are very young and dense. They will surely be distributed on the mountain soon :-)

The Nordmannsturm is a 19-metre-high observation tower in the Deister in the municipality of Nienstedt, a district of the town of Bad Münder. It is located on the Reinekensiekskopf on the ridge path of the Deister at a height of 382 metres above sea level. There is a restaurant at the foot of the tower.
