A fascinating series of ten locks with many cosy eateries.

Foxton locks is the longest staircase flight of canal locks in Britain. The feet of engineering was completed in 1814 and allows canal boats to climb the 75-foot (23m) hill. There is a museum here and you can take a boat trip up the locks (summer only).

The basin marks the convergence point of the Leicester line of the Grand Union Canal and the Market Harborough arm, situated at the base of Foxton Locks. Foxton Locks is the 'staircase' of ten canal locks. This flight of locks was built in the early 19th century to enable canal boats to navigate the steep incline. The locks are arranged in two groups of five, allowing boats to ascend or descend the hill.

I had to detour round the edge if a ploughed field but easily done

Don't know why Komoot says cycling not permitted here as it is a designated Bridleway.

Foxton Locks are a series of no less than ten canal locks consisting of two "staircases" each of five locks, on the Leicester line of the Grand Union Canal. Alongside the locks is the site of the Foxton Inclined Plane, built in 1900 to resolve the restrictions imposed by the lock flight.

The Hemplow Hills combine vibrant woodland with stirring vistas to make walking here a delight. They are one of the most scenic sections of the Jurassic Way long-distance trail, boasting beautiful views of the surrounding countryside, particularly towards neighbouring Honey Hill.

Built to supply water to the nearby Grand Union Canal, Welford and Sulby Reservoirs are wonderfully scenic. Keep your eyes peeled for carp beneath the surface. A loop of Welford Reservoir is an easy walk from nearby Welford, where there are also peaceful walking options along the canal.

Stunning views across the heart of England await from Honey Hill, one of the most beautiful spots – as well as the highest point – on the Jurassic Way long-distance trail. In fact, it was here the trail was launched in 1994. On a clear day, it's possible to see five different counties from the top. After periods of rainfall, the trails can be boggy here, so decent hiking footwear is recommended.

Bit of a technical descent. Track very narrow in places, several gates, not too steep - better than trying it the other way, anyway. Watch out for pedestrians and horses - not much room to pass. Good views from the top.

A great place start and end a circular walk. There's a good café at the top too.
