Watch out for the ants in summer!

The area is great, lots of paths and variety, but the route given sticks to busy roads where you have to keep your dog on a lead. It also directs you down a private drive with no public right of way. Come to the area and follow your nose, not this route.

This tour takes you through Harlestone Firs. I don't know the place very well but it is criss-crossed with a maze of single tracks and well known locally. Last time I tried it just for following the trails I manged to break my chain - expensive day! Anyway you can follow any number of routes through the place or stay there all day. It is, however, very, very busy since Covid so watch out for other riders and pedestrians. I exited the Firs via what appears to be an unofficial path that takes you straight to the roundabout on Harlestone Road, thus avoiding the main road.

Great for a walk with the dog, with friends or just on your tod. There are miles of criss-crossing paths to explore with access to the golf course on the far side (away from main entrance). There is roadside parking in front of the main entrance, though this can get full quickly on a nice day or at the weekend. An ice cream van parks here most busy days, selling the local Gallone's ice cream, along with all the classics. You can also visit the garden centre 328 feet (100 m) down from the forest entrance, where there is a cafe, shops and toilets.

Lovely trails and bridleways through undulating woodlands.

Covering 2.6 hectares Harlestone Heath is a beautiful nature reserve to the north-west of Northampton. The reserve flanks the Northampton railway line. A network of footpaths takes you through the rare heathland where you might spot green woodpeckers, siskins, and various butterflies.
