Really beautiful path. Peaceful and really calm roads. Not to be missed!

I can only agree with that. Perfect pass on very good asphalt, in sycamore and beech forests. There are a few drinking water points on both sides, all of which provided water in mid-May. It tastes good and I feel good afterwards. So you don't have to carry the water up the mountain.

Perfect tarmac and very few cars (even fewer cyclists!) The gradient is never too steep, whilst still being an epic mountain route. There are towns on both sides of the route for refuelling. In other words, this is a cyclists paradise! If you are cycling across the Balkans, this should be your route. We cycled through in Autumn and it was spectacularly beautiful!

Kotel is a nice village on the Kom-Emine E3 long hike tour. It features historic buildings, a car free town square, restaurants and hotels. A good place to stay overnight when doing Kom-Emine

This shelter is being used as a barn for animals. Inside it is dirty, does not have bunk beds. It might protect from rain, windows and door however are missing. For these reasons I would not suggest to stay overnight in this shelter. We hitch hiked to Kipilovo from Vratnik Pass where we stayed in a low cost guesthouse/hotel found on booking.

Small reservoir behind the Karandila inn and bakery. There is also a self-service restaurant with a nice seating area, spring water fountain, children's playground and climbing park.

A nice stop for refreshment and to fill up the bottles with fresh spring water. A short branch path leads there from the hiking trail.

Annular rock formation. According to legend, a maid saved herself from the sultan by jumping through this ring. At this point there is also a beautiful view of Sliven and the valley station of the cable car. From here you can reach the ring in about 40 minutes.
