Beautiful view of the lake

The lake is now barely recognizable. Only a few small, marshy patches remain.

The Borsig Villa Reiherwerder. A striking symbol of Germany's industrial history. ❗️ In 2000, it was decided that the Federal Foreign Office would use the Reiherwerder estate as the Foreign Service Academy and the large Borsig Villa as the guesthouse of the Federal Foreign Minister. 💡 Open House ❗️ 💁On only one day a year can you immerse yourself in history and take a look behind the scenes; otherwise, the grounds are not open to visitors.

The small observation tower is located on the edge of the bird sanctuary and not far from the lively beaches of the airport lake. The tower seats several people. The view extends across the airport lake to the former Tegel Airport.

Although the area of the bird sanctuary is fenced, the hiking trail runs along a small hill, so that an unrestricted view of the airport lake is still possible.

A gravel path along the runway of the former Tegel Airport. You can no longer see any airplanes here, but it's also much quieter. The path is exposed to the blazing sun and offers little shade.

When I visited in early April 2025, the pond was largely dry.
