Is it really worth a detour? If you're already in Wanaka, you can check out the tree. Unfortunately, due to the hype, the crowds are sometimes too large. Otherwise, you have a tree in the lake in front of a spectacular backdrop!

Unfortunately, the bridges are currently unusable! To get to the back pool (the blue one), you have to cross the stream. With a swimsuit (which I unfortunately didn't have with me today), it's no problem at all given the moderate water level!

The road becomes gravel midway but is still easy to drive. It is possible to start the route from the small parking lot at the south-eastern corner of the lake, but there is more parking space further down the road.
