A hike through the Tinner Loh is like a journey to another time. If you're coming from Dankern Castle, even to another world.

The great resting place is the ruins of a windmill.

The nature reserve is located east of Haren (Ems) between Emmeln and Tinnen. It protects an old beech forest with some very old trees. In the forest, which was previously used as a pasture forest, there is a lot of dead wood and there are many hollows in the trees. There is a very beautiful circular path in the forest. This is highly recommended.

The wild boar pond is right on the side of the road and is not very attractive to look at. There are a lot of branches and some rubbish in the water.

A wonderful forest experience

There was a windmill in Brunneforth, the construction of which was commissioned by a woman in the "eighteen hundred strikes of death". The history of this mill and the restored remains of the foundation can be found here. The local history society was really hard-working and created a rest stop that is really worth seeing. What you should be aware of: This mill was a drive-through mill. The teams carrying grain could drive through underneath - which made sense, because the mill blades used to go down so low, especially on Dutch windmills, that serious accidents kept occurring. But just look at the size of the drive-through gates and then think about how the harvests used to be in this area that this size was sufficient! In principle, many tractor tires are now so high that they would reach the top of the driveway! The milling industry has always been something special, there were special milling rights and for centuries the millers belonged to the class of the "dishonest" and were just as little respected as executioners and knackers, but they ensured that the food supply of grain was secured.

Unfortunately, the "explanatory board" for this section of the route was missing when I visited. But it is an old burial mound field - and even if you don't know that, you can see from the location and the gnarled trees that it is a special place.
