Beautiful scenery from Zielow to Vipperow

The section of the Müritz Cycle Route between Vipperow and Ludorf leads through a peaceful, expansive cultural landscape on the southwest shore of Lake Müritz. Starting in Vipperow, the route mostly follows flat paths through fields and small rows of trees toward Ludorf. This section is easy to ride, with hardly any inclines, and is ideal for a relaxed tour with short breaks.

The Church of St. Mary and St. Lawrence in Ludorf an der Müritz is an extraordinary building and a worthwhile stop for cyclists. Built around 1250 as an octagonal central structure, legend has it that it was founded by a returning crusader, modeled on the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Rebuilt several times, it received Gothic elements, supporting pillars, and later a burial chapel. After the church tower collapsed in 1583, the roof was replaced. Today, the church impresses with its unusual form and exciting history dating back to the Middle Ages—a cultural and historical highlight on a tour along the Müritz.

From the bike path, it's just a few steps to the ancient beech, a mighty giant that's probably over 100 years old. The beech tree no longer has any leaves. Unfortunately, there's no information about the tree other than the sign.

The village church in Zielow, a simple half-timbered building, was built in 1833/34 on the foundations of an older, dilapidated church and stands on a fieldstone plinth above the Müritz shore. The small hall building has a flat wooden beam ceiling, simple mullioned windows, and a recessed ridge turret on the west side. Particularly noteworthy are the colorful pulpit with carved ironwork and an altarpiece from 1728 depicting Christ on the Cross. Instead of fixed pews, there are simple chairs; there is no organ, but a harmonium provides musical accompaniment. "Originally, there were two bells in the tower. The church is a quiet, historic site and an important testament to the religious and cultural traditions of the village of Zielow.
