The statue of Mary marks the end of the Buchgraben trail. This is an ideal uphill trail that starts at the ORF Burgenland Center. Difficulty level: 3 (according to Korbaj) Update July 2025: Like many trails in the Leitha Mountains, this one was recently leveled and is now significantly easier and also less interesting. What a shame about this once very beautiful uphill trail! 😢

March 27, 2021 - The Sulzberg cave, better known under the name "Teufelsloch", can be found in an abandoned quarry south of Loretto near the Esterhàzy forest edge settlement. The local population of Stotzingen hid here in the devil's hole during the Russian occupation.

As expected, you are rewarded with a wonderful view in all directions, even on a slightly hazy February day you can see really far. But check it out for yourself!

At this statue, Mary and Joseph turn their backs to each other.

The wayside shrine shows Mary and Joseph standing back to back. Jpsef looks towards Eisenstadt, Maria towards Loretto. This column symbolizes the watershed (hence "Gscheidkreuz") in the Leithagebirge. On the south side the water flows into the Wulka and into the Neusiedler See, in the north into the Leitha and subsequently into the Danube.
