According to legend, a father and his son got lost in the vastness of Lake Neusiedl. Thanks to a light source on the slope of the Leitha Mountains, the father was able to find his way again and thus save himself and his son. He is said to have built this chapel out of gratitude. The "Mother of God" image in the chapel bears the year 1760.

Donnerskirchen the idyll at the foot of the Leithagebirge ... The small, dreamy village nestles between the Leitha Mountains and Lake Neusiedl, "guarded" by the baroque mountain church that towers over the village. The wine culture, the hospitality of the people and the beauty of the landscape give the municipality a natural charm.

It is the twelfth station of the cross. The Austrian sculptor Thomas Resetarits (1939-2022) was commissioned to make it. He created the fourteen life-size limestone station portraits from Mannersdorf am Leithagebirge. The Way of the Cross was inaugurated in 1994.

If you come via the Leithagebirge via Kaisereichenweg or Sieben Lindenweg, you should definitely take the view from the Donnerskirchen mountain church with you - a short 200m climb from the Berggasse (sign is slightly hidden)
