The Nepomuk Chapel in Wels is a venerable example of Baroque architecture and a significant piece of cultural heritage, honoring Saint John of Nepomuk. This saint, venerated as the patron saint of log drivers, reminds us of the deep-rooted tradition of timber transport on the Traun River, which was of great importance to the region. Erected in 1732 by the log drivers' guild, the chapel stands on the south side of the building at Traungasse 12, the former site of the Traun Gate. The special devotion to Saint Nepomuk is evident not only in the weighty statue, donated around 1718 by Gottlieb Nester, but also in the artistic design of the building itself. The restoration in 1964, during which the chapel was rotated 90 degrees, underscores the commitment to preserving this cultural asset and making it accessible to visitors.
