Old Traun Bridge (Wels–Thalheim) • Located directly in the city center, it connects Wels with Thalheim. Wels is one of Austria's most important railway junctions. The railway bridge is therefore a key component of the north-south and east-west connections. It has been maintained and adapted to modern requirements several times over the years.

Thalheim Air Raid Shelter near Wels In the Reinberg valley near Thalheim near Wels, tunnels were built very late to serve as air raid shelters for Wels businesses and the local population. Documented construction work only began in January 1945. Construction of the first tunnel began on January 15, 1945, by the company Ferro-Betonit-Werke AG. Work on the second began on January 23, and excavation of the third began on February 15. There are no records of the start of construction for the other tunnels. With the exception of one, all tunnels are now either closed, walled up, or collapsed after a few meters. Wels was the target of Allied air raids, primarily because of the airbase and the aircraft and metal structures, but also because of the train station and marshalling yard. The first air raid hit the city on May 30, 1944, claiming the lives of many residents. Due to the numerous air raid warnings that had been triggered up to that point, which had not resulted in any actual attack
