2월 26, 2025, City of Troy Maze
One of only a few such mazes left in the country and the only one in Yorkshire.

5월 5, 2024, View of Fryton and the Vale of Pickering
Fryton Lane ends here, where it meets Fryton West Wood. Off-road parking for a couple of cars. Far-reaching views to the north across the Vale of Pickering. Great track to the east, through Fryton East Wood, which is blanketed in bluebells in Spring.

Worth stopping on your ride here - this is a gem! "City of Troy" here is the only surviving instance (in North Yorkshire) of an ancient game. A similar name is given to these kinds of maze games in Scandinavia (Trojeborg = Troy Town), which shows early association between these parts of the world. There is a plaque with further information here as well as a bench to rest on to enjoy this place. The views are also quite lovely, particularly down the Bonnygate Lane road.

10월 10, 2023, Green Lane Track, Howardian Hills
This wide track through the fields and pastures, is a runner's dream. Straightforward (literally: run forward in often a straight line), it's fun to run here. After rain, there might be some puddles and some mud, but nothing too scary. Lots of open space here!

10월 10, 2023, View of Fryton and the Vale of Pickering
There is a fabulous view down Fryton Lane to the hamlet of Fryton from here, but what of course grabs the attention is dozens of miles of the English countryside here: miles and miles and miles of a view to the distant hills on the horizon. The poetry is not all in Switzerland, you know!

10월 10, 2023, View of Wath Beck Valley
To the south-east of here, both Wath Beck and Sawmill Beck meet. From above here, there are gorgeous grassy and green views of the hills. A perfect place to spend some time from away of it all.

10월 6, 2023, All Saints' Church, Terrington
A superb, small church in Terrington. Has a proper feeling of sacredness to it, helped by the churchyard with some old gravestones. The present church dates back to the 11th century, and a lot of things around the church are very old. For instance, the Chancel arch is from the 14th century and the oldest of the church bells in the Tower from 1450. Although the church was restored in the 19th century, it retains a full sense of history. There is a bench just outside the church door where you can rest and admire the scenery.

10월 3, 2023, Thurtle Wood Forest Path
It's good to, on occasion, disappear in the woods! This is a good way to do that: it's a pleasant track through Thurtle Wood (a wide, very easy forest track). Some logging here and there, but not too much. Eventually, walking north, you will emerge onto more of an open space (Hall Moor) with the wood to your left (west). If you want to be "away from it all", here, you got it.

10월 3, 2023, St Peter's Church, Dalby
This is a very interesting church here in Dalby. Its origins are Norman; it was built in the 11th century, but then significantly rebuilt. The Chancel here is from the early 15th century: castellated, with 4-feet thick walls, it's an unusual structure in this part of England. If you like small village churches with a sense of simple history to them, you will not be disappointed by this one.

9월 28, 2023, Hovingham Park and Hovingham Hall
The beautiful Hovingham Park, with a 18th century bridge over a waterfall plus Hovingham Hall on its east end, is just straight out of Hovingham and a fantastic place to be, whether on your own, on a longer walk or with family. Marr's Beck winds its way lazily through these grounds.

9월 28, 2023, Middle Way Bridleway, Howardian Hills
Middle Way is a track and bridleway rising in a straight line from the southern end of Hovingham, towards South Wood, on Ebor Way. The views of and beyond Hovingham, down the track, are very striking. Looking east from near South Wood, you are also given lovely views towards Wath ('wath' means 'ford').

9월 28, 2023, All Saints Church, Hovingham
All Saints Church was rebuilt in 1860 by Marcus Worsley, except for the Anglo-Saxon tower, which was retained. It is believed that the tower dates back to just before 1066, around the time of the Battle of Hastings, of course. Inside the church, you will see how the Gothic of the nave contrasts with the unfaced stonework of the Saxon tower and its masonry. Well worth the visit!

9월 25, 2021, Terrington Tea Room
Today's experience of Terrington Tea Room wasn't so good. We stopped on our ride through the village, folks in the shop were very grumpy. Spent over £15 on coffees and flapjack and sat outside (obviously as we were cycling and bikes were outside) and yet when we asked to use the loo as we left we were told 'nope', loos are for tea room sitting in folks only! Well thanks very much, and next time we wont bother stopping there and take our dosh elsewhere, oh and you can have one if these 🖕 Mrs Grumpy.

Village shop with excellent cakes and snacks. Roadworks through the village until Aug 2021, so long as you're happy to walk the 100m past the works ignore the signs sending cyclists on the diversion route
