you can occasionally go up to the top of Ashton memorial which has great views! even if you can't the steps have good views too. and lots of nice nature (little pools of water) and little huts and structures to rest by!

Water too deep to get off the stepping stones on the far side, avoid if possible in wintery months

A nature reserve close to the city centre of Lancaster. Nice area to get away from the noise of the town and makes a very nice walk when combined with the nearby Lancaster Canal.

Williamson Park in Lancaster is a 54-acre area of park and woodland within the city. The iconic Ashton Memorial stands on the slopes and there is also a cafe in the pavilion, a petting zoo and butterfly house. There are plenty of nice trails to run around and a parkrun on Saturday mornings at 9:00.

The Pavilion Cafe and shop near the Ashton Memorial in Williamson Park is a convenient pit stop or the start or end point for a run. They serve a good selection of drinks, cakes and light meals from 10:00 - 16:00 (Oct to March) & 10:00 - 17:00 (April to Sep). Runners and volunteers at the local Lancaster Parkrun gather here for a post run coffee on Saturday mornings.

The Ashton Memorial is a folly in Williamson Park. It was built between 1907 & 1909 as a memorial to Jessy, the second wife of Lord Ashton. It's around 50m tall and can be seen from most places in Lancaster and the surrounding area. Today the memorial serves as an exhibition space and wedding venue. For runners it's the backdrop of the local parkrun and a landmark if you’re out running and need to head back in this direction.

Williamson Park is the home of 54 acres (21 ha) of enchanting parkland with a play area, woodland walks, a butterfly house, petting zoo, and breathtaking views over the Fylde Coast, Morecambe Bay and the Lake District Fells. You can visit one of Lancaster's most iconic landmarks in the park – the Ashton Memorial. Built in 1909 by the Lancaster industrialist Lord Ashton, the tower has stunning views over Lancaster and the surrounding countryside.
